GCU’S COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY
Grand Canyon University (GCU) serves to present the formal dignity of academic traditions to faculty, staff and students. Doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree candidates are encouraged to participate in the commencement ceremony, a time to celebrate and reflect on academic achievements, with peers, friends and family.
Invitations to register are emailed directly from GCU to eligible degree candidates' email addresses on file. It is strongly recommended that graduation candidates and guests avoid securing travel preparations until the graduation candidate has registered and received a confirmation email acknowledging ceremony participation.
Please remember, filling out the graduation application does not register degree candidates to attend the commencement ceremony. Degree candidates with questions regarding the graduation application should contact their student services advisor.
Information regarding frequently asked questions, campus tours, commencement agendas, travel and more is available for the fall and winter commencements, located below within the View Traditional Student Info and View Online or Evening Cohort Student Info buttons. Please check back regularly as the information below will be updated throughout the time leading up to each commencement.
Professional photography vendor GradImages will be capturing special moments before, during and after the commencement ceremonies of graduates and their loved ones. The GradImages staff will wear red vests so they'll be highly visible and easy to locate. Ask these professionals to help create more memories of your special day!

GCU recognizes undergraduate students with high honors and outstanding scholastic achievement. Honor candidates are represented by gold or silver cords. Candidates are determined based on final, posted grades using the standards below:
- Gold cords are worn by undergraduate students with a 3.4 GPA or higher and 60 or more GCU credits.
- Silver cords are worn by undergraduate students with a 3.5 GPA or higher and less than 60 GCU credits.
To find out if you will receive an honor cord, contact your student services advisor. Honor cords may be picked up at check-in on the day of your commencement ceremony.
Per the University Policy Handbook, second bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree candidates are not eligible for honor cords.
