If you need help with your toughest subjects, we invite you to Experience the Learn at the GCU Learning Lounge. You will work one-on-one with another GCU student, known as a learning advocate (LEAD), to help you get the most out of your educational experience. Find out more about the GCU Learning Lounge by browsing through our frequently asked questions.

Have you visited the Lounge? If you would you like to share your experience please complete the survey below regarding your LEAD and the session(s) you had with him or her. This information will help us continue to improve the Lounge and evaluate the effectiveness of our LEADs.

As part of our community outreach efforts, the GCU Learning Lounge is proud to offer academic support to local high school students in our community. High school students can receive free one-on-one and small group learning assistance from our K-12 University LEADs. GCU K-12 LEADs are college scholars who excel in math, reading, writing and science. These LEADs are specially trained to work with high school students and are passionate about serving others. Beyond academic support, the GCU Learning Lounge offers free snacks, a study area with oversized couches and chairs, free use of tablets, plus many other amenities.

Learning Services

The GCU Learning Lounge offers a variety of services to both campus and online students, including one-on-one study sessions with a LEAD. Our goal is to help you succeed in all of your courses during your time here at GCU. We are here to provide extra assistance so that you can succeed in your most challenging classes and earn the grades you want.

Scheduling an Appointment

We encourage you to make an appointment with a LEAD three to seven days before an assignment due date. Although we suggest two to three sessions per week, you may schedule one 30-minute appointment per day, or one hour appointment every other day, and can schedule every day for up to eight days in advance. Schedule your appointment for the GCU Learning Lounge below. For the how-to guide click here

Need help, but unable to get to campus? Online course assistance is accessible anywhere you have an Internet connection. To schedule an online learning session, simply indicate when reserving your session that you would prefer an online appointment.

  • Please have your Lopes ID number ready. You can do this by logging into the GCU student portal. Click on "My Profile,” then "My Information,” where you will find the school ID number.
  • Strive to complete your homework first. Then, bring specific questions to the learning session.
  • Gather all the materials you will need during your session, including books, notes, links, etc.
  • On-Campus Sessions: The GCU Learning Lounge is located in Building 16. Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment to check in.
  • Online Sessions: Log on to your computer and your student portal, and have your email open before the start of your session. You will be called at the specified time.

  • If you booked an online meeting, you will be called.
    • If you do not answer or if you are late for an in-person meeting, you will be called three minutes after the scheduled start of the session. An email reminder will also be sent to the address provided when you booked the appointment. One final call will be made after the email is sent.
  • Expect to be asked questions about your homework concepts; this helps to find a starting point.
  • You may be asked to read a concept or excerpt aloud since this can help clarify areas of confusion.
  • The goal of the session is to help you understand the concepts and principles, not to do your homework for you.

  • Your session must be canceled up to four hours prior to the scheduled session.
  • If you do not show up to the session, or are not available to be reached by telephone or email, you will be considered a no-show.
  • After three no-shows in one term, you will no longer have access to GCU Learning Lounge for 16 weeks.
  • For online appointments, call the Learning Lounge at 602-639-8901 learninglounge@gcu.edu if you are not called within the first five minutes of your session. Please contact your student services advisor for specific questions about your individual course or program.
